In the camping world, it is difficult to find resources in an organized space that provide information on how to prepare correctly and stay safe as a beginner female camper. Furthermore, a majority of women feel uneasy going out alone. Women are underrepresented in wilderness recreation despite the obvious benefits to mental, physical, and emotional health. They are often apprehensive due to the perspective that they are consumers rather than conquerors of the outdoors.

I addressed this problem through a personal, customizable camping guide. What makes this guide special is that it is unique to each user. The guide comes with prearranged pages, and the user can add their own printed-out pages (provided by the website) that they feel are important for their own needs. Each section also has a handful of end pages that serve as field notes and sketch pages, so the user can add their own notes. This provides complete certainty and comfort for the camper so they feel as confident as they can before and during their trip. 

This book includes 90+ pages of informational material that can help each camper grow confident before and during their solo journey.

Compared to other “Pocket Guides,” this solution will concisely offer information; therefore, there won’t be an overwhelming amount of content to read at once, especially when the user is already outdoors. This guide will not only properly inform the camper of their specific needs but also encourage them to continue to explore and expand on their solo camping adventures.

Accessibility to resources like this is especially hard to come by in a way that is digestible for beginners, so I wanted to effectively create a guide that had the basics you could bring with you, but secondary resources you could explore further on your camping journey.
